XP Seminar

9 and 10 October 2001, Auckland

Featuring the world's #1 eXtreme Programming guru,

Kent Beck

Software Education, in conjunction with Ian Mitchell, FNZCS, is proud to announce NZ's first XP (eXtreme Programming) seminar. It will be held in Auckland at the Auckland Club, Shortland Street, on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 October. Coming to NZ for the first time to lead this conference is Kent Beck (USA), who is considered the top XP exponent in the world.

"The Economist", an international weekly usually more concerned with global economics than technology, ran an article on the impact of XP in its edition of 9 December 2000. The article talked about the origins of XP:

"XP was invented in 1996, when Kent Beck, a software developer, was called in by an American car maker, Chrysler, to rescue a project which had proved so frustrating that it had been scrapped. As Mr Beck worked on this benighted venture, known as Chrysler Comprehensive Compensation (C3), he formulated a set of directions for keeping code 'elegantly written'. The C3 system now provides correct monthly payroll information for more than 86,000 employees. It's success is ascribed to Mr Beck's golden rules."

There's no doubt that XP is hot.  At the programming level, XP is a major advance over past practices. We'd recommend that any organisation with programming staff look very seriously at this conference.

Special Offer #1: XP is for teams, so we want to encourage teams to attend. For that reason, the standard fee of $1395 + GST per person is reduced to $695 + GST for third and subsequent registrations from the same organisation.

Special Offer #2: If two or more attend from the one organisation, you can bring your manager or an internal or external customer to a breakfast meeting with Kent Beck on Wednesday 10 October - FREE OF CHARGE. Managers are welcome to stay for Kent's address on "Managing an XP Contract" and for the following address by Hesketh Henry on "Optional Scope Contracts".
